Judge & Priestley Christmas Lecture 2017 at the Law Society, London

Judge & Priestley held their annual Christmas Lecture on the 12 December 2017 at the Law Society in London.

The event was to update clients and friends of J&P with the latest developments in the area of service charges and their recovery.

Presenting on the day were J&P property litigation Partner Mark Oakley and Ranjit Bhose QC from Cornerstone Barristers.

The lecture was attended by nearly 50 existing and prospective clients from London and South East region, including senior professionals and key decision makers from local authorities, private and social landlords and property management companies.

Mark Oakley opened the proceedings with an update on the new Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Recovery, which came into force on 1st October 2017 and its impact on the procedures and practices of recovering of service charges.

Ranjit Bhose QC then took centre stage to present an update on recent Service Charge cases and their implications for the audience. Given the topicality of the recent Grenfell Tower tragedy it is not surprising that the update on front door replacements and other fire safety improvements prompted the most animated debate of the day within the audience.

The meeting concluded with a networking opportunity over lunch, giving attendees the chance to meet and catch up with the presenters and other J&P staff and follow up on the issues raised in the lecture.
