Q. What is mediation?
A. A mediator is someone who is trained to help people resolve disputes. Mediation involves meeting you and your partner together, exploring the subjects you have difficulty agreeing on and trying to help you reach agreement. Throughout the process you are at liberty to consult your own solicitor should you have any legal queries.

Q. How can I be sure that the mediator won't side with my ex?
A. Mediators are specially trained and qualified professionals who are independent and do not take sides. We are likely to ask difficult questions but we are trained to be neutral throughout and to recognise if one person is more vocal than the other. It is our job to ensure that you are both able to have your say equally and fully participate in the process.

Q. What happens when we reach an agreement?
A. We will draw up two Summaries to show the terms of the agreement. You will then take these to your solicitor who will look over them before preparing a draft consent order and lodging at Court with a view to finalising a legally binding agreement.  In the case of child only mediation, only one Summary will be prepared.  Working things out through mediation is a cheaper process because your solicitor will have less to do and therefore fees will be lower.  It is also a much quicker process as the parties concerned can meet at times that suit you and the mediator.
