Thowheetha qualified in 1991 and specialises in family law and mediation.  She was the first solicitor trained by Resolution to qualify as a mediator in the Bromley area. She is an accredited Specialist Member of Resolution, a Member of the Law Society Family Law Panel, a Member of the Family Mediation Association and a member of the UK College of Mediators.  Thowheetha was legal adviser for the Bromley Domestic Violence Forum between 2001 - 2003. She is a legal consultant for the South East London Family Mediation Bureau and a legal advisor for the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau and Bromley Citizens Advice Bureau.  Thowheetha was President of the Bromley District Law Society in 2007/8 and has been their Treasurer since 1999.
